Showcase Saturday 4.14.18

This week features some catch-up purchases and impulse buys. Let’s take a look at what’s in the Showcase, shall we?

From DC:

ACTION COMICS: 80 YEARS OF SUPERMAN THE DELUXE EDITION – Join us for the 80th anniversary celebration of the most important comic book in American history: ACTION COMICS #1, featuring the first appearance of Superman! It’s an extraordinary party as we revisit stories from across the decades, featuring the debuts of not just the Man of Tomorrow, but also Supergirl, Brainiac, the Fortress of Solitude and more! See the work of generations of top writers and artists on the original superhero! Enjoy sparkling essays from literary wizards who have won Pulitzer Prizes and hit the bestseller lists, including Jules Feiffer, who relives his memories of when ACTION COMICS #1 first hit newsstands. Plus, a historical essay by guest editor Paul Levitz! And as a bonus, don’t miss a previously unpublished 1940s Superman tale believed to be written by Jerry Siegel with art by the Joe Shuster studio, salvaged fifty years ago and hidden away until now!

THE IMMORTAL MEN #1 – “THE END OF FOREVER” part one! There is a secret history to the DC Universe of heroes who have protected humanity from the shadows since the dawn of time…and who can live forever. Enter the Immortal Men! The team, headed by the Immortal Man, has waged a secret war against the House of Conquest for countless years—but Conquest has dealt a devastating blow. When their base of operations, known as the Campus, is savagely attacked, the Immortal Men must seek out their last hope—an emerging metahuman known as Caden Park! Caden’s emerging powers may be able to ensure the Immortal Men’s survival—but will Conquest get to him first?

THE TERRIFICS #2 – “MEET THE TERRIFICS” part two! Tom Strong has disappeared, and the Terrifics have found his emergency beacon! But to save anyone else, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Phantom Girl and Plastic Man must first save themselves from the Dark Multiverse they’re trapped within—not to mention the gigantic alien monster they’ve been standing on this whole time!

WONDER WOMAN #44 – “AMAZONS ATTACKED” part four! When last they met, Wonder Woman was robbed of a chance to meet Darkseid in single combat—and she’s certain she’d be able to take him down. At last, she’s going to get her wish—but with Darkseid at full power, is she still sure she’ll survive?

From Dynamite:

BARBARELLA #5 – Barbarella’s never ending quest to repair her ship’s regulator and be on her way takes a detour to Falladim, where there’s a rush on for R.U.S.T.-Radically Unstable Space-Time! The rarest and most valuable stuff in the universe, even Barbarella can’t resist its mighty call. But competition brings out the worst in humans and aliens alike, and the Siren of Space is about to see what the worst really is!

From IDW:

PRISON SHIP – Showcasing the beautiful black-and-white art of the renowned Spanish artist Esteban Maroto in this science-fiction space opera first published in the 1980s.

Diana Jacklighter has been assigned what should be an easy mission, transporting a group of criminals in suspended animation, but after her ship is struck by a meteor and crashes, the plague-stricken prisoners escape and Jacklighter must head out and capture them.

From Marvel:

EXILES #1 – DON’T BLINK – THE EXILES ARE BACK! Fan-favorite X-Man Blink once joined a team destined to save not just the world, but the entire Multiverse. And now, her teleporting talents are needed once again! When a mysterious threat begins eating away at the fabric of the Multiverse, the Unseen – the man once known as Nick Fury who now can only observe Earth from a lofty post on the moon – must recruit a champion to save it. But she can’t do it alone. Who will join Blink’s new team – and can they ever go home again?

DOMINO #1 – Impossible curves. Impossible shots. Impossible targets. Marvel’s #1 soldier of fortune is back in an explosive new ongoing series! The product of a failed super-soldier program, Neena Thurman always made her own luck as the sharpshooting mercenary known as Domino… but what happens when her own powers betray her? The hunter becomes the hunted as every mercenary in the game smells blood in the water! Plus: A pair of beloved Marvel characters return!

  1. since I never heard of her before Is/was Domnio marvels answer to Harley Quinn? Also don’t know if you can edit these posts but #1000 only shows #1.And Bizarro not wont superman review he not guess that your not choice, as it is not very obscure. Do not prove Bizarro right, want to be wrong. Bizarro speak is easy know I make things not clear

    1. Domino predates Harley by a bit, and apart from a superficial resemblance, the two don’t really have much in common.
I’m not that familiar with her myself, but I decided to pick this issue up because of Gail Simone.
Action #1000 isn’t out until next week; this is just a companion piece that collects a bunch of Superman stories from the past 80 years. They were originally going to also call this special edition “Action Comics #1000,” but changed it, given that it doesn’t actually contain any of the stories that are part of #1000.
