Mail Call For 1.14.23

Noticed that there was a second volume, so, given that I have the first, there was no real choice but to pick it up, even though I’m running out of places to put these huge omnibuses.

Who’s Who Omnibus Vol. 2
| Hardcover | 1216 pages | $ 125.00
DC’s encyclopedia of heroes and villains steps into the 1990s in this massive hardcover continuing the classic Who’s Who biography series! Also includes the spinoff series Who’s Who in the Legion of Super-Heroes, spotlighting DC’s greatest team of the 30th century. Collects Who’s Who in the Legion of Super-Heroes #1-7, Who’s Who in the DC Universe #1-16, and Who’s Who Update 1993 #1-2.

As someone who was more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan growing up, I kept hoping that DC would put out something as cool as the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, so I was glad when Who’s Who in the DC Universe finally hit the stands.

I still thought OHOTMU was cooler overall, as I liked the way it went more in-depth into how different powers worked and in defining some specific limits on them and how it seemed like more of a technical manual, but I did appreciate the quality and quantity of original art that Who’s Who boasted.

While I bought each issue of the original Who’s Who and the 1987 update – and still have them, along with the omnibus – I didn’t get around to picking up any of the later editions, so this omnibus is my first time seeing them.

Now I just have to make room for it…

But wait, there’s more!

Something else arrived shortly after I posted this:

Friday #2
| Trade Paperback | $ 15.99
BOOK TWO is finally here! A young adult detective hero finally grows up in this second volume of the genre-defying post-YA masterpiece from award-winning creators ED BRUBAKER (RECKLESS, FRIEND OF THE DEVIL, PULP, KILL OR BE KILLED) and MARCOS MARTIN (THE PRIVATE EYE, Daredevil), as well as acclaimed colorist MUNTSA VICENTE. Friday Fitzhugh’s best friend and partner Lancelot Jones (the smartest boy in the world) has been killed, and the police in their small town of King’s Hill are not up to the task of solving the crime. Now, Friday must pull herself out of her grief and hunt the cold winter night for justice-all on her own this time.

Somehow, I missed this at the comic shop, so I had to track it down online. And now Friday has arrived on Saturday.
