Mail Call For 5.8.23

What was intended to be just a simple gap-filling purchase ended up being the largest Mail Call of all time as I ended up filling another gap, and then filling an even bigger gap, and grabbing some variants.

The first gap I wanted to fill was for DCeased: Dead Planet, as I noticed that I was missing one of the C covers, and the completist in me would not let that stand.

But I couldn’t bring myself to buy just one comic, and I remembered that there was another gap from a particular era of Superman, so I added that one to the cart as well.

On a different day, I also decided to get in on some of the Power Girl, er, action I’d missed out on and ordered these Action Comics variants, which coincidentally arrived today.

Action Comics #1051H, #1051J, and #1053H
I already had the foil variant of the #1051H cover and didn’t necessarily want to grab this one but buying it as a set with the other two – which I did want – was the best bargain I could find.

However, the bulk of today’s Mail Call was part of that initial shopping session that started with filling just one gap, then expanded to two, and then expanded to buying 27 issues of The Warlord.

The Warlord #56-67, #69-80, #82-84

The reason for this odd number of issues of the series – some replacements for comics I once had, some entirely new to me – is that I was looking to collect all of the issues that contained the back-up feature The Barren Earth, one of my favorite stories from the era. While I was at it, I also picked up some sentimental favorites from before and after the back-up’s run.

I still had two issues – #68 and #81 – remaining in my collection, so this gives me a complete run from #56 to #84.

Somewhere along the line I’ll probably complete the entire series, but this mammoth Mail Call is enough for now.
