Mail Call For 9.30.23

After writing up my post about comics that have been lost to the ages, I happened to look at my database entry for Swamp Thing vol. 2, and I was surprised that I still had as many issues as I did, and that most of the gaps within the first dozen or so issues weren’t the result of lost comics, they were gaps I’ve had all along. After all, my access to new comics was always inconsistent.

Though, again, I’d had a surprising number of issues, as the only issues out of the first thirteen I never had were 9, 11, and 13. The lost comics were 1, 2, and 6.

In any case, I decided to fill the gaps, both old and new, stopping with #13, as that was the end of the first major arc of the series.

Swamp Thing vol. 2, #1-2, #6, #9, #11, and #13

I have much larger gaps after #13, but I have no plans to fill those any time soon. Especially not any of the issues after Alan Moore took over the series, as they are far too pricy for me.

I will say, though, that these early issues written by the late Marty Pasko are extremely underrated and should have cost more than they did (though my bank account is glad they didn’t).

Of course, my Mail Calls are seldom just about filling gaps, as variants exist, and I do not have as much self-control as I should.

Wonder Woman vol. 6
#1C – Julian Totino Tedesco Variant
Action Comics Presents: Doomsday Special
#1G – Nathan Szerdy Exclusive Variant
Power Girl vol. 3
#1H – Warren Louw Foil Variant

There’s one more Power Girl #1 variant on the way – a variant of this variant – and a couple more that I would like to have, but they are far too expensive for me do anything more than simply wish I had them.

There are also more variants for this that haven’t arrived yet.

Bettie Page vol. 4
#4I – Cosplay Incentive Variant

As I said, more variants are coming, but there are also some crowdfunded comics-related items that should be arriving soon, so stay tuned for the next Mail Call.
