#6MillionClicks
A bit ago, Bluesky hit a milestone: 6 million users.
I quoteposted a post mentioning that fact with a link to this site and stated, jokingly, that to celebrate hitting that milestone all 6 million users should visit Comics Unbagged.
The idea was a bit of a non sequitur, of course, and I didn’t seriously expect to get 6 million people – or even just 6 people, if I’m honest – to click on a link to this site.
But then again, why not?
Why not try to get 6 million people to click on a link to this site?
After all, it wouldn’t cost them anything other than a few moments of their time, but for me, for this site, and for OpenDoor Comics overall, it would be lifechanging.
How much would it change my life? It’s impossible to say, but just getting that much traffic would lead to a substantial amount of ad revenue, even if all those 6 million people did was click the link and then click away.
The more they clicked around, the higher the revenue, especially if they were to click again some other day.
Beyond that, maybe some of those 6 million would like what they see enough to make a donation. Or to sign up to support OpenDoor Comics on Patreon.
So, like I said.
Lifechanging.
Towards that end, I began regularly sharing links to the site – beyond just sharing links to new posts – and encouraging people to help get me to 6 million clicks, or at least get me more than the usual number of clicks.
I also encouraged people to repost my posts after clicking the link and encourage others to do so.
Then I started adding the hashtag #6MillionClicks.
While it so far hasn’t led to getting me much closer to that goal, it has garnered somewhat more clicks than usual, though the total number remains depressingly low.
Which is why I’m writing this reference post to explain the #6MillionClicks goal and what it is I’m actually hoping to accomplish.
What Am I Trying to Accomplish?
When I say “6 million clicks,” that’s not exactly what I’m looking for, though that would be cool. Rather, what I’m hoping for is to get 6 million total visits to this site. That isn’t necessarily 6 million unique visits – though that would also be cool – especially since I don’t have any expectation whatsoever that it would happen all at once, or even within, like, a week, or a month.
In fact, I don’t have a deadline in mind at all beyond “soonish.” At some point, soonish, and the soonisher the better, I would like for this site to hit 6 million total unique visits.
A unique visit doesn’t imply a unique visitor. If you, the theoretical person reading this right now, come back again later the same day, only one of your visits will be counted as unique and you won’t add to the count. If you come back again tomorrow, your visit will be unique for that day and you will add to the visit count.
That won’t get me to 6 million visitors, which is the ideal, but it will get me to 6 million visits, which is the really, really good consolation prize.
So, for example, I could hit my goal of 6 million if the same 3 million people visited the site two days in a row.
That said, in a perfect world, I would get 6 million individuals to visit this site, and despite the hashtag, I will accept them however they manage to get here, whether via a link shared to Bluesky or via a search engine…which is honestly the less likely scenario these days.
Why Should I Click?
…I mean, if you’re reading this, you already clicked.
But as to the why…why not? It’s a fun little challenge that requires very little effort on the part of any individuals. Just click a link, share the link, and maybe change a life.
Just do it to see if we, collectively, can.
Or also to read stuff about comics.
If you’re here, maybe go here and learn more about the site and find out what there is to see and what the different categories over to the right mean.
If you’re not into comics…well, there’s not really much here for you, but thanks for stopping by anyway. That said, a lot of people like this post, and I think you can substitute in whatever you are into and maybe find it relatable.
How Will This Change My Life?
As I said, I can’t really estimate how much I would earn from 6 million clicks, but it’s safe to say that it would be a fair amount, though not enough to allow me to quit my job and live a life of leisure.
It would, however, let me pay off some bills and then invest some money into OpenDoor Comics, allowing me to do things like find a better hosting solution, get some custom development work done, and maybe pay some other people to write some posts here.
And those improvements would, ideally, lead to more people clicking, and more improvements, leading to more people clicking, and…
How Can I Help?
As noted, by being here right now you’ve already clicked and thereby helped.
But beyond that, you can come back regularly and share links encouraging other people to add to the #6MillionClicks tally.
And you can always just give me money if you can afford to and feel like doing so via the links above and over on the right.
And that’s pretty much it. Just thought I should create this explainer post that I can share as I continue my quest #6MillionClicks.
Thanks for stopping by, and remember to encourage others to
