Facsimile Edition
Release: Jun 14, 2023
The night Gwen Stacy died! In 1973, Spider-Man fans the world over were shocked by a story that had previously been unthinkable. Readers were used to Spidey saving the day – and as the Goblin sends Gwen plummeting from a bridge, our hero believes he has done it again, firing out a webline that breaks her fall. But when Peter holds Gwen in his arms, the heartbreaking truth is revealed – and comic books are changed forever! It’s a masterpiece of storytelling from Gerry Conway and Gil Kane, and one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all! Reprinting AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #121. Rated T
Jon Says:
I like these facsimile editions, particularly as they generally recreate the originals completely (or nearly so), with the exception of the price. Also, I just had to pick this one up given the news of the passing of the legendary artist responsible for that iconic cover.

Jon Says:
Honestly, I mostly pick up the various Bettie books for the covers, as the actual stories contained within don’t really do it for me. They’re not bad, they’re just not really what I want, though I’d be hard-pressed to really explain what I do want. I did like Bettie Page Unbound quite a bit. In any case, yeah, covers. I buy a lot of Bettie Page covers, and, as is often the case, my comic shop doesn’t have all of the covers I want, so you can anticipate seeing more covers for this issue in an upcoming Mail Call.

I actually had a dream that I went to the comic shop and almost forgot to buy this. Fortunately, it was not at all prophetic, as I went into the shop very explicitly intending to buy it.
And I got a signed bookplate for doing so:

I’m actually kind of annoyed that this storyline has been broken up across a few different series instead of just playing out in a single series with more issues. Also, Thessaly is just the worst and always has been.

Jon Says:
I mentioned missing the boat on Something is Killing the Children, and after seeing a lot of buzz about this on Comics Twitter, I decided I’d hop on board at the start just to see what all the fuss is about. I hadn’t even really looked at what people were saying to get a sense of what the fuss is about, just that they were fussing, and I just decided to go along with the crowd. I legitimately didn’t even realize it was by Kirkman until just now. So, we’ll see if I’m as excited as everyone else seems to be after I read it.
As always, special thanks go out to my comic shop, Comic Logic Books & Artwork. Please remember to support your local comic shop, and if you need to find one, click here.
