A post about it on Bluesky made me decide I should pick up my own copy.

Of course, there’s a reason I decided to pick up this particular issue:

If, like me, you’re a comic book fan of a certain age, you’re bound to be familiar with the ads for Hostess® Snack Cakes that ran in the comics of your youth featuring beloved characters stopping crimes and solving all of life’s thorniest issues with the careful application of Twinkies, Cup Cakes, and Fruit Pies.

And even if you’re a much younger fan, the odds are you’ve seen parodies of those ads, as they left an indelible impression on olds like me.

This feature tells you everything you could ever want to know about those classic ads and includes plenty of examples.

Reading about them is almost as delicious as fudgy icing, golden sponge cake, or real fruit filling.

Almost.

Born and raised in the sparsely populated Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jon Maki developed an enduring love for comics at an early age.
