The Haul For 10.25.26
My local comic shop had its Fall Lot Con today, and for the fist time since they started doing them, I decided to check it out.
Basically, a bunch of vendors set up tents in the parking lot in front of the little strip mall in which the shop is located (all the other businesses in that section are closed on Sundays).
There were a lot of people there selling wares and displaying things that I’m sure would be interesting if I were interested in those things, but I was mostly there for comics.
Apart from the shop itself, there were a handful of other people selling comics.
I didn’t buy a lot from the lot, as I don’t have a lot of money to spare. I made a half-hearted search in the boxes of Silver Age comics for the issues of Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane that I still need (#1 and #2), but most likely wouldn’t have bought them even I’d found them.
I did get my hopes up that I might find Ghosts #105 in the Bronze Age boxes but sadly they only had up to #102.
But I did end up making some nostalgia-based purchases.

When I was a kid, my parents went on a trip somewhere, and when they returned, my mom presented me with a big box of comics. They were all Charlton or Charlton reprint comics, and they were where I first encountered characters like Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Judomaster, and E-Man.
There were several duplicates of some of the comics, and one I remember there being a lot of copies of is the issue of Blue Beetle seen above. And while I used to have a lot of copies of it, they were all lost to the ages, so I was down to having no copies of any of them.
Because this one stood out in my memory and didn’t cost a lot, I grabbed it from the lot, so now I’m up to having one copy.

These two are just fondly-remembered issues from the series – mostly because of the Sienkiewicz art – that I also used to have a lot of and also lost to the ages. So I grabbed them.

This one doesn’t have any sentimental value; I just like that Adam Hughes cover.
Some people were mad about it oversexualizing a teen girl, but this is Archie Comics we’re talking about, so while that may not make it right, it does make it par for the course.
And anyway, I like it.
And finally, I don’t like to go to any event they host without buying something from the shop, so even though this would have been waiting for me in my box on Wednesday – they’d been shorted on the order when it originally came out and just got more in stock – I picked this up today.

And that was that.
Like I said, there was a lot more in the lot for people who are interested in a lot more things than I am, but such is my lot in life.
In any case, here are some quick pictures I took of the event.

Born and raised in the sparsely populated Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jon Maki developed an enduring love for comics at an early age.
