Mail Call For 8.26.24
Overall, I wasn’t that thrilled with Thor: Love and Thunder. I felt like it leaned too much into the comedy, and a lot of the jokes just didn’t land. Plus, it just didn’t do justice to any of the multiple comic storylines it condensed into one.
I was not, however, disappointed with the look of The Mighty Thor, AKA Dr. Jane Foster.
Thus, when the Hot Toys 1/6th scale figure became available for preorder, I put down my deposit and waited.
And waited.
And waited some more.
But now she’s here.
A new thing that Hot Toys has added – new to me, anyway – is moveable eyes, the position of which can be changed with a small plastic tool included in the box.
Unfortunately, the main thing that I found the tool useful (“useful”) for is knocking the eyes out entirely.
Thus, I’ve blinded the head that doesn’t have a helmet.
While it is a quality sculpt, and it looks cool, I am a bit disappointed. The eyes falling out is mostly on me, but the fact they can come out at all feels like a design flaw, and I don’t think the gimmick of being able to – in theory – change the position of her eyes is worth the hassle. I’ve seen accounts from owners of other figures with the movable eyes that sometimes they just end up moving into wonky positions on their own, so I’ve got that to *ahem* look forward to.
Also not thrilled by the fact that the helmeted head doesn’t properly snap on. It just kind of sits on the neck and falls off easily, particularly if you’re adjusting the cape, which has wires in it to make it poseable.
A few days ago I hit the seventh anniversary of my first Spotlight Sunday post, which was when I started writing about comics on a semi-regular basis and is a feature that eventually became this site. Fittingly, that first post was about a comic featuring a certain Goddess of Thunder.
Still, it’s a good looking figure overall, and I’m glad it finally arrived.
I have another figure – a different Marvel heroine – that will be making her way to me – and a future Mail Call post – eventually.
Born and raised in the sparsely populated Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jon Maki developed an enduring love for comics at an early age.
