Mail Call For 4.3.25
A recent episode of Daredevil: Born Again made me think of a specific issue of the comic that, while very different, had certain elements in common.
When someone else made the same connection on Bluesky, I decided that I should do an Unbagging of the comic, operating on the assumption that it was one that I still had in my collection and that it wasn’t lost to the ages.
Turns out I was mistaken about that.
Still, I wanted to write about it, and buying a replacement copy meant I could also get a Mail Call post out of it.

While I was there, I couldn’t buy just one comic, now could I?
I decided to take another step in my lazy goal of collecting every issue of Superman vol. 1 from the year I was born until the series ended in 1986.
The biggest gap I have is from the first year up until around 1978, so I decided to start at the beginning.
Technically, starting in January of that year pushes me back into the previous year, as the cover date on comics is usually months ahead of when it was released, so really, if I’m looking to start when I was born, I’d have to get a comic with a cover date of July.
However, the January issue is a classic that I couldn’t pass up.

That one might actually get the Unbagging treatment as well at some point.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for a closer look at that issue of Daredevil, and check back soon for the next Mail Call, as there are still lots of things eventually making their way to my doorstep.

Born and raised in the sparsely populated Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jon Maki developed an enduring love for comics at an early age.
