Yeah, I continue to miss the hype train on this – at least in terms of the writing, if not the art – but I still keep chasing after it.

Jon Says:
I probably would have gotten kicked out of Comics Twitter if I hadn’t picked this one up. Fortunately, I do like Kendra, so I probably would have taken a look anyway. That said, I’ll probably tradewait on the rest of it.
It’s more Knight Terrors. So that’s all that “Jon Says.”

Jon Says:
I’ve honestly been suffering from Sonja fatigue for a while, but I have liked Grønbekk’s work elsewhere, and I do like Geovani as a Sonja artist.
That said, Dynamite has gone WAY overboard with the variants on this, even by Dynamite’s standards, with, by my count, 92 variant covers. I get that it’s her 50th anniversary but come on.

Jon Says:
So far, it’s been pretty good. Nice take on giving a 2020s’ makeover to a quintessentially 1990s’ character. In general, it’s a good time to be a fan of the Superfamily.

First up is alien princess and warrior Starfire, whose huge heart, huger hair, and fiery fists have made her a fan-favorite member of the team! When a spaceship bearing Tamaranean markings crash-lands on Earth, Starfire goes on a solo mission to uncover its origins. But what awaits her on that journey will bring her back to the earliest days of her youth, to memories of two sisters eternally at war…and perhaps the chance to keep history from repeating itself.

Jon Says:
In the early to mid-eighties, The New Teen Titans was my favorite comic, and one of the NTT stories I loved most was the mini-series Tales of the New Teen Titans, which dedicated an issue to the origins of four of the new – or newish – members of the team.
This mini is an obvious homage to that – right down to the main cover for this issue, which is an homage to the Pérez cover for the Starfire issue.
I will note that in the original mini, Starfire had the last issue, and it led into a major storyline in the main series. Doesn’t seem that will be the case this time around.

Jon Says:
It’s been interesting, and it feels like something designed to fill the Ostrander’s Suicide Squad void – at least the portion of that book that focused on the seedy world of espionage in the DCU, but not enough has really happened in it for me to form any strong feelings about it. Still, as with Spirit World, I had the remaining three issues added to my Pull List at the shop.
As always, special thanks go out to my comic shop, Comic Logic Books & Artwork. Please remember to support your local comic shop, and if you need to find one, click here.
