Once again some purchasing decisions were motivated by some discussion on Bluesky.

This time it was about which issues of Justice League of America featured interior art by the late and legendary George Pérez.

He didn’t have a long run on interiors – though he did continue to do some covers – and I already had a few issues, so I figured I might as well get all of them.

Justice League of America vol. 1 #184-186, #194

I already had #195-197, so that just left #200, and I figured I might as well fill the gap with the two issues in between, one of which featured Pérez on the cover art but not on interior art.

Justice League of America vol. 1 #198-200

I had #185 and #186 when I was a kid as well as a couple of the other Pérez issues between #194 and #200 via mystery packs, the latter of which I reacquired a while back.

I’d picked up #198-199 new, and while I no longer have those issues, I started buying JLA as regularly as I could for almost a year starting with #201. I was already a Pérez fan at that point, so I’m not sure why I didn’t get #200 back then. Maybe I just didn’t see it, or my mom wasn’t willing to pay $1.50 for a single comic.

Or maybe I just randomly chose not to get it. It’s hard to say, as there was often neither rhyme nor reason as to which comics I did or didn’t go for as a kid.

Bonus:

It’s always kind of jarring/darkly amusing to pick up an old comic and see an OJ Simpson ad.

That does it for this Mail Call. As is almost always the case, there are still things making their way to me via the assorted delivery services, so check back soon to see what else has landed on my doorstep.

Born and raised in the sparsely populated Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jon Maki developed an enduring love for comics at an early age.
